If your skin looks a little dull or you want to change up your skincare routine, add vitamin C serum to your routine. Rinse your face and then rub a few drops of the serum into your skin. This will make your skin look brighter. It can help your skin heal itself because vitamin C has antioxidants. When your skin looks good, don’t forget to moisturise it.

Method 1 of 2:Using the Serum Effectively

1 You can do a patch test to see if you have an allergy to something. Apply 1 drop of the vitamin C serum to the inside of your wrist, then rub it into a small area there. There is a lot of sensitive skin in this area, so you’re more likely to see a reaction to vitamin C there, too. You should wait 24 hours to see if your skin is irritated or starts to break out. If it doesn’t work, you can put vitamin C on your face to make it look better.

  • If you do have a reaction to the vitamin C, don’t use it as part of your daily skincare routine and mention it to your doctor or dermatologist.
  • If you also use AHAs and BHAs, such as glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acids, wait a few minutes before applying the vitamin C serum or you’ll risk irritating your skin.

2 The serum should be used in the morning or at night. Your skin only takes in so much vitamin C each day, so you only need to apply it once a day to keep it healthy. Decide if you want to make it part of your morning skincare routine. Make sure to put on sunscreen after you use the serum. To apply the serum in the evening before you apply your nighttime moisturiser, you can do it this way: [1]

Tip: If your nighttime moisturizer contains retinoids, you can use it with the serum as long as it doesn’t irritate your skin. Research has shown that vitamin C with retinol actually improved the appearance of aging skin.

3 Cleanse your face with a mild soap. Spray some cool water on your face and spread a coin-sized amount of cleanser across your face. Do this for about 30 seconds, then rinse off with water. then use water to clean your face. [2]

  • Use a cleanser that’s designed for your skin type. For example, if you have sensitive skin, use a fragrance-free cleanser that doesn’t contain alcohol.

4 Dry your skin and spread toner on your face. This will make your skin look better. A clean cloth should be used to wipe your face dry. Then, soak a cotton ball in facial toner and put it on your face. Brush the cotton ball across your face, but don’t get it near your eyes. Wait until the toner is dry before applying the vitamin C serum. This is what you should do next:

  • If you have oily skin and use a toner that contains benzoyl peroxide, wait at least 5 minutes before using the serum. Mixing the benzoyl peroxide with vitamin C could prevent the serum from working effectively.

5 Rub 2 to 3 drops of serum onto your face. Use the dropper in the bottle of serum to squeeze 2 to 3 drops of vitamin C serum into an open palm. Then, rub the fingers of your other hand into the oil and dab some of it onto your cheeks and forehead. Massage the oil evenly across the rest of your face.[3]

6 Wait 5 to 10 minutes before applying moisturizer. Give the vitamin C serum a chance to soak into your skin before you put another skincare product on. Once your skin feels like it’s absorbed the serum, gently massage moisturizer across your face.[4]
If you’re doing the facial in the morning, consider using a daytime moisturizer that contains SPF to protect your skin.

2 Treating Skin Issues with Vitamin C Serum

1 Apply zinc and vitamin C to your skin to reduce the inflammation that causes acne. One time a day, apply a vitamin C serum that also has zinc to fight bacteria that causes some types of acne. This will help you keep your skin clear. It can help your skin heal because vitamin C has an anti-inflammatory effect, so it can help your skin get better. [5]
Talk to your dermatologist about microneedling with vitamin C if you have very bad facial acne.

Did You Know? If you’re using a topical acne treatment that contains vitamin B3, also known as niacinamide, it might make the vitamin C serum less effective.

2 When you go outside, you can protect your skin from sun damage by applying a vitamin C and E serum to your face and body To protect your skin from harmful UV rays, always put sunscreen on your face before you go outside, even in the winter. As soon as you’re done outside for the day, wash your face and put on a vitamin C serum that also has vitamin E on your face. [6]

  • The vitamins help your skin repair itself from sun exposure, which is why you should apply it after being exposed to UV rays.

3 Add the serum as part of a skincare anti-aging routine. You’ve probably seen anti-aging skincare products that claim to increase collagen. Researchers found that applying vitamin C once a day can actually increase collagen production, a protein which helps your skin repair itself and minimalize wrinkles.

  • You’ll need to use the vitamin C for at least a few months before you can expect to see an improvement in your skin’s appearance.

4 Use vitamin C serum to get rid of hyperpigmentation Exposure to the sun or being pregnant can make your face look dark. Apply a vitamin C serum once a day to help get rid of the pigment that makes your skin look dark.

  • Keep in mind that you’ll need to use the serum for at least 3 or 4 months before you might notice an improvement.
